Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Integrated Operation Assurance group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Lead Nuclear Safety Inspector.

Our team works an on-site 9x80 schedule located at our Willow Creek Building, Idaho Falls, Idaho with every other Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide oversight of and conduct inspections of INL Nuclear Safety Operations in accordance with the INL Integrated Oversight Process. As part of inspections, review safety analysis reports (SARs), technical safety requirements (TSRs), technical specifications/standards (specifically 10CFR830--nuclear safety regulations), unreviewed safety question (USQ) screenings and evaluations, and other safety basis documents that support DOE regulations.
  • Provide technical oversight of complex nuclear safety tasks ensuring compliance with technical codes, standards and regulations. Oversight and monitoring will be performed to determine compliance and effective implementation of regulatory requirements across the INL nuclear complexes.
  • Provide mentorship of other nuclear safety inspectors.
  • Advise and assist Laboratory Director, Laboratory Deputy Directors, and INL senior management on laboratory and national issues that pertain to Nuclear Safety Operations. Develop, manage, and maintain strategic relationships with Department of Energy (DOE)-ID, DOEHQ, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), other national laboratories/peer groups, other nuclear agencies, senior management, and facility operations.
  • Serve on and/or lead nuclear safety teams establishing nuclear safety objectives, setting priorities and advising INL senior management regarding nuclear safety operations issues.
  • Review and recommend nuclear safety authorization basis changes.
  • Provide leadership in establishing the INL as a leader in Nuclear Safety Operations. Identify human and equipment performance trends and submit trend analysis reports for Laboratory Deputy Director's review.
  • Perform duties as a Nuclear Safety expert. Participate as a technical/professional expert on national or peer-review committees including Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), NRC, DOE-ID, and DOE-HQ committees. Develop and implement comprehensive nuclear safety regulatory controls, procedures and processes.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's and 8 - 12 + years related experience, or Advanced Degree and 6 - 8+ years related experience; experience associated with nuclear materials and/or nuclear power plant operations, maintenance, and testing that demonstrates knowledge of basic nuclear technology, operating safety procedures, radiological safety, codes, and standards. This ability must have been gained through commercial, government, or military nuclear experience. Requires extensive contact with INPO, DOE-HQ, DOE-ID, senior management, facility operations, and other nuclear agencies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in verbal and written communications is required.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience as an NRC Senior Resident Inspector or qualified Inspector, Shift Supervisor in a commercial power plant or DOE Nuclear Facility, or equivalent.

  • PR0400: Salary Grade 220 ($110,316 - $181,956) / PR0500: Salary Grade: 230 ($124,368 - $211,596)
