Fusion Blanket Engineer (Neutronics)
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Fusion Blanket Engineer (Neutronics) to work in our Reactor Physics Methods and Analysis department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research Education Campus with every other Friday off.
Responsibilities Include:
Applies and develops advanced concepts and techniques to neutronic analysis of fusion energy systems. Works with nuclear fusion designers, customers, and other analysts to develop design requirements, recommend design changes, and develop integrated analyses in order to ensure that requirements are met. Performs detailed neutronics analyses to calculate materials transmutation and activation, leading to waste assessment and classification. Performs detailed shielding analyses to satisfy design requirements for biological safety. Integrates in teams performing experimental activities to characterize irradiation damage in materials and contributes to the understanding and prediction of materials and components performance. Integrates in teams performing modeling and simulation activities to develop and improve neutronic calculations. Performs peer reviews. Provides technical leadership and mentoring, with the objective of building a team of fusion neutronics specialist. Publishes work in technical journals and present work at technical conferences and meetings.
Works on complex problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious. Often acts independently to uncover and resolve problems. Work is checked only for the effectiveness of results. Actions directly contribute to achieving significant department business objectives. Advises management in areas of technical expertise. Plans, conducts, and executes research or application efforts on technical projects necessitating the origination and application of new and unique approaches. Supplies leadership and consultation to co-workers.
Minimum Requirements:
* PR0200 - PhD in fusion engineering, nuclear engineering or closely related field & 2 years of related experience
* PR0300 - PhD in fusion engineering, nuclear engineering or closely related field & 4 years of related experience
