Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Nonproliferation Engineer/Scientist to work in our Nuclear Nonproliferation Division. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility with every other Friday off. You will report to the manager over Nuclear Nonproliferation.

Apply existing theories and principles for safeguards and nuclear nonproliferation that result in recognition of the INL as a major resource for nuclear nonproliferation, with special emphasis on the international safeguards community and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).

Responsibilities Include:
  • You will be a Principal Investigator (PI) or co-PI for nonproliferation and international safeguards projects. These projects are broad and require application of originality and ingenuity to achieve solutions, so familiarity or experience operating nuclear fuel cycle and reactor facilities desired.

  • Generate ideas for new proposals and business development opportunities.

  • Resource for the Division and influences project strategies and directions.

  • Generate ideas for new proposals and business development opportunities.

  • Prepare materials for scientific and technical products, reports, documents, presentations, and concept papers.

  • Demonstrate nonproliferation program leadership (US and international) through experience with nuclear/radiological facility operations, international nuclear policy and direct experience with safeguards systems and approaches.

  • Participant in diverse program portfolios with NNSA global threat reduction and international safeguards programs for detecting, monitoring, verifying, mitigating and preventing the deception or illicit transport of nuclear and radiological materials and technologies globally.

  • This may involve extensive travel and work off-site.

  • Provide support to international safeguards programs, including substantial sponsor interactions, international project management and execution of technical and political solutions (including those describe above), and scheduling/tracking provision of product deliverables.

  • Provide training to INL, US and international customers on radiation detection, nuclear nonproliferation and safeguards.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
  • PR200: BS and 2 years direct hands-on nuclear nonproliferation technical/project management experience, MS/MA and minimum 1- year nuclear nonproliferation technical/project management experience, or Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or related discipline

  • Prior experience with National Nuclear Nonproliferation Work.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • PR0200 - 210 ($95,928 - $158,232)
