Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Power System Engineer/Researcher to work in our Infrastructure Security department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule with every other Friday off. This position is fully Remote.

As a Senior Power Engineer/Researcher within INL's National & Homeland Security (N&HS) Directorate, you will lead and direct research in state-of-the-art cyber for power systems and clean energy integration within the critical infrastructure protections and resilience mission.

Responsibilities Include:
  • You will provide technical direction to analytic efforts, research endeavors, technology solutions and business development support for the power research community, including US public utilities, Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DOE), the Intelligence Community and other government agencies.

  • Assist in develop and implement research plans and business strategies that result in impact to the N&HS mission space; assist the successful implementation (cost, schedule, safety, security, environmental compliance, and quality assurance) of associated programs; develop active relationships with important clients and strategic partnerships with key external team members; provide national and INL technical consultation in areas of expertise, and work as a team player with other researchers, line managers, relationship managers, and professional technical/administrative staff from across the INL.

  • Depth of technical knowledge should include several of the following areas: commercial power design and cyber protection, including protection devices, transformers, distributed energy generators, control systems, and communications; inverter-based resources with a focus on test hardening and vulnerability assessments including understanding Smart Grid and Digital Technologies, Renewable Integration, and Grid Modernization.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
  • PR0400: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience or Master's and 6 years or PhD and 4 years

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, SCI access, and sigma's which requires US Citizenship.

  • PR0400 - 230 ($124,368 - $211,596)

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
