Job Description
  • Provide knowledge and insight to the Seed Health team on technical aspects in the areas of expertise
  • Provide troubleshooting and support in technical protocol maintenance to the Seed Health team as well as to adjacent functions
  • Maintain collaboration and play a key role in interactions between QC Development, Quality leads and Technical specialists from other regions
  • Play an active role in leading implementation of newly designed tests. Take into account that the tests are in line with all requirements (e.g. ISO, ISTA, NSHS, ISHI)
  • Drive continuous improvement of knowledge and skills of lab personnel
  • Drive continuous improvement of quality processes in cooperation with lab personnel
  • Ensure conformity to and governance of Syngenta processes and procedures, like HSEQ, Code of practice, Quality policy, Code of conduct, etc.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain technical expertise in Seed Health and the associated routine processes in the lab by participating in the workflow and conducting the test methods as appropriate
  • Agree project definition and targets with stakeholders, shape experimental programs accordingly and define appropriate resources and skills
  • Keep technical expertise up to date by participating in national and international working platforms such as NSHS, ISTA, ISHI etc. Also play an active role in training and process improvements
  • Keep relevant contact by networking e.g. with relevant scientists, research institutes, universities, expert groups
  • Able to analyse complex data and prepare detailed reports and presentations and ensure follow up
  • Provide inputs with achievements, deliverables, quality issues etc. for monthly reporting to the manager
  • Is able to communicate technical facts, ideas and opinions to a general audience in an assertive way and influence others using rational persuasion.
  • Represents department on project teams, or may lead projects within function
  • Provides training and technical advice to other lab personnel
  • Continuously improve operational processes. Work together with your colleagues and their teams for stimulating a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Engage in cross-regional networks to identify best practices and drive continuous improvements across the Syngenta QC labs
  • Ensures full compliance on HSE, quality and security standards. Secure a safe and healthy work environment and process execution at all places according to ARBO and HSE standards

Qualifications

Critical knowledge

  • Good knowledge of testing methods and technologies, especially referring to NAL, NSHS, ISHI
  • Taking initiatives both individually and as a team player
  • Showing a pro-active, hands-on mentality
  • Ability to interact with laboratory personnel, scientists and supply chain and marketing people

Critical experience

  • MSc or PhD in a molecular biology, biochemistry, plant physiology or relevant related discipline
  • Preferable experience (1-3 years) in the seeds business
  • Effective communicator, well developed written & presentation skills
